IBPS Clerk Exam Pattern 2025

The selection procedure of IBPS Clerk involves 3 steps: Prelims Exam => Mains Exam => Local Language Proficiency Tests. Let's have a look at the exam pattern of IBPS Clerk Prelims.

Note:

  • There are sectional cut-offs in place, which means that you need to clear the cut-offs of each section separately.
  • The overall cut-off will be released by IBPS in due time. You need to score at par or more than the overall cut-off to be eligible for the Mains exam.
  • There is negative marking in place. If a question is answered incorrectly, 0.25 of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted. However, if a question has not been answered, no marks will be deducted. Please avoid answering questions based on your guesswork; otherwise, your score may be impacted.
  • Score obtained in Prelims will only be used to consider the eligibility for the  Mains exam. Prelims score will not be considered in the final merit listing.

If you look at the exam pattern, there are more questions and less time. You get only 20 minutes to solve 30/35 questions. Definitely, this is not an easy task to attain. Please note that in this exam, the questions are a mix of easy, difficult and moderate ones. Your task is to learn the skill of picking easy and moderate questions first and securing their marks. You can attempt the difficult questions if there is time left. Now, to learn the skill of identifying easy and moderate questions, you need to practice a lot of questions. And for practice,a mock test is the best tool.

IBPS Clerk Mains Exam Pattern (Revised)

This year, there has been a major change in the Mains exam pattern. Candidates must know the IBPS Clerk mains revised exam pattern. You should keep the mains exam pattern in mind even when you are preparing for the prelims exam. The reason is that you will not get much time for mains preparation once the prelims exam is over. Let's have a look at the mains revised exam pattern:

Note:

  • Each incorrect answer will attract a penalty of one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question. Avoid answering based on your guess, as your score might get affected. However, if a question is left blank, there will be no negative marking.
  • Each candidate will be required to obtain a minimum score in each test of the Online Main Examination and also a minimum total score to be considered for further process. This means that there are sectional and overall cut-offs in place.
  • Only the marks obtained in the Mains exam will be considered for the final merit listing.

You are advised not to wait for the Prelims exam to be over to start Mains preparation. As already mentioned, the difference between the Prelims and Mains exam dates will not be much. So, a serious aspirant would obviously have started Prelims preparation, but at the same time, they should also start phase-wise preparation for the Mains section as well.
